<p>Anticipated AKF Karate Championships to start in Uzbekistan<br />
The city of Tashkent (Uzbekistan) hosts the 2022 AKF Senior, Cadet, Junior, U21 &amp; Para-Karate Karate Championships. The new kings and queens of Asian Karate will be crowned at the event to be held from December 16 to 20.</p>
<p>One of the most anticipated events of the season, the AKF Championships gather the best Karate athletes in the continent. Here is all you need to know about the tournament.</p>
<p>WHAT</p>
<p>The 2022 AKF Karate Championships are the biggest Karate event in the continent. The new Asian champions will be crowned at the event.<br />
The event reaches its 18th edition in the Senior categories, the 20th edition in Cadet, Junior, and U21, and the 1st edition in Para-Karate.<br />
It will be the first time that an Asian Para-Karate Championships will be held.<br />
WHERE</p>
<p>The event will take place in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in the Sports Complex “Uzbekistan”.<br />
A major powerhouse nation of the sport in the continent, Uzbekistan have hosted first-class Karate events over the years, including the Asian Championships in 2019.<br />
The previous edition of the event was held last year in Almaty (Kazakhstan).<br />
WHEN</p>
<p>The tournament is scheduled for December 16 to 20.<br />
The first day of the competition (December 16) will have Cadet Kata and Kumite and Junior Kata categories taking the stage.<br />
U21, Junior Kumite, and Para-Karate divisions will be held on Day 2 (December 17). The opening ceremony will also be held on Saturday.<br />
The anticipated Senior individual competition starts on Day 3 (December 18) with the preliminary rounds.<br />
Teams will take the stage on Day 4 (December 19) together with Senior individual and Team Kumite Bronze medal matches.<br />
The finals of the Senior Individual and Team Kata competitions will be held on Day 5 (December 20).<br />

WHO</p>
<p>Over 700 athletes from 28 countries have registered to participate in the event.<br />
Iran present the largest delegation with 62 athletes, followed by Japan with 61 and Kazakhstan with 60 competitors.<br />
The powerhouse nation of Iran topped the podium of the 2021 edition of the event with 39 medals including 14 golds. Kazakhstan and Japan also registered deserving performances with 32 and 10 medals respectively.<br />
The list of defending champions participating at the event is headed by World Championships runner-up Hikaru Ono of Japan in Female Kata, Thi My Tam Hoang of Vietnam in Female Kumite -55kg, Sarah Alameri of UAE in Female Kumite -61kg, Kayo Someya of Japan in Female Kumite -68kg, Abdallah Hammad of Jordan in Male Kumite -60kg, and Grand Winner Zabiollah Poorshab of Iran in Male Kumite -84kg<br />
HOW</p>
<p>The competition follows a knockout format.<br />
The event comprises 61 categories including Senior, Cadet, Junior, U21 and Para-Karate divisions.<br />

<p>African powerhouse nations dominate day 2 of UFAK Championships</p>
<p>The second day of the competition of the 2023 UFAK Karate Championships being held in Durban (South Africa) put underage categories on the stage. The African powerhouse nations of the sport prevailed on Day 2.</p>
<p>The Egyptian delegation claimed more titles to complete their successful performance in Senior categories on Friday. Karim Ahmed and Omar Metwaly won the crowns in Cadet Kumite Male -63kg and Cadet Kumite Male +70kg respectively while Ganna Aly and Rahma Tolba became African champions in Junior Kumite Female -48kg and Junior Kumite Female -59kg respectively. Mohamed Hany Nasser took the crown in Junior Kumite Male -55kg while Youssef Farag prevailed in Junior Kumite Male -76kg. The gold medal count for Egypt was completed by Omar Osman in Junior Kumite Male +76kg</p>
<p>Morocco added three golds on Saturday. Roumayssae Tarkou opened the gold medal count for the African nation in Cadet Kumite Male -47kg while Samir Sadini won the title in Cadet Kumite Male -57kg. The crown in Junior Kumite Male -68kg went to Mohamed-Amine Badjou</p>
<p>Tunisia also celebrated three gold medals on day 2 of action. Mayssa Ksantini became continental champion in Cadet Kumite Female -54kg as Mohaned Rahmouni dominated Cadet Kumite Male -70kg. The flag of Tunisia went to the top of the podium in Junior Kumite Female +59kg with the title going to Mariem Taleb.</p>
<p>The universality of Karate was demonstrated on Saturday as no less than five countries took home the gold medals at stake. Salma Hafed of Libya won the crown in Cadet Kumite Female +54kg while Ala Eddine Kichou of Algeria prevailed in Cadet Kumite Male -52kg. Algerian representatives added more titles in Junior categories with the gold in Junior Kumite Female -53kg going to Kenza Yahiaoui and in Junior Kumite Male -61kg going to Mohamed Anis Saadi</p>
<p>In the team competition, the titles were claimed by Algeria in Female Team Kata and Female Team Kumite and Morocco in Male Team Kata and Male Team Kumite.</p>

<p>WKF President celebrates progress of Karate in America at PKF Championships</p>
<p>WKF President Antonio Espinós attended the 2022 Pan American Karate Championships this week where he praised the remarkable progress of the sport on the continent.</p>
<p>The 2022 PKF Karate Championships were held in Curacao this week. In addition to the thrilling competition, the Pan American Karate Federation celebrated its annual Congress and meetings.</p>
<p>Representatives from 28 countries participated in the Congress which was headed by PKF President José García Maañón. The development of the sport in the Americas was discussed at the meeting while the celebration of Karate events in the continent was also reviewed.</p>
<p>Mr Espinós also met with top sports officials during his visit to Curacao as Karate continues to further strengthen its presence in the World and Olympic sports community.</p>
<p>WKF President said:</p>
<p>“The WKF has worked together with the continental federations such as the PKF to push Karate to a whole new level. While we have evolution and modernisation on our minds, we never forget the spirit and many values of Karate. Now we need to continue our great work by working closely together and continue writing new and exciting chapters in the history of our sport around the World and here in America.”</p>
<p>“I want to thank the PKF and its President José García Maañón for the efforts in hosting this event and for their hard work to ensure the progress of Karate in America.”</p>
